The ceremony is scheduled for 4pm, at Palácio do Planalto, in Brasília, and will be attended by members of social movements and political allies
The federal government has high expectations for the inauguration of (PSOL) as the new minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, scheduled for this Wednesday (29), at 4 pm, at Palácio do Planalto, in Brasília. The ceremony will be attended by members of social movements and political allies, in a symbolic gesture of rapprochement with sectors that had been criticizing an alleged distancing of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
According to Planalto sources, the invitation to representatives of PSOL, Boulos’ party, and leaders of popular movements reinforces Lula’s strategy of reestablishing links with his historical base. The government assesses that the new minister can help rebuild bridges with activists and organizations that have traditionally supported the PT member, but have been showing dissatisfaction with some decisions during the current mandate.
In addition to the political symbolism, Boulos’ appointment has strategic effects. Lula seeks to strengthen coordination with the National Congress, especially around projects considered priorities, such as the PEC that proposes the end of the 6×1 scale, authored by congresswoman Érica Hilton (PSOL-SP), and a new regulation proposal for app drivers, a sensitive topic after frustrated attempts to reach an agreement in 2024.
The move occurs amid the need to rebuild the government’s support base, which suffered recent losses with the departure of Progressistas and União Brasil. The gesture is also seen as a political step towards the 2026 elections, for which Lula has already confirmed his intention to run for a new term.
