Specialist warns: Do not buy peaches in the supermarket if they are like this and this is the reason

Buying peaches may seem simple, but the fruits displayed in the supermarket are not always at the ideal point for consumption. Appearance is sometimes deceiving and can lead to choosing peaches that are too green, overcooked or have no flavor. To avoid waste and disappointment, experts warn of obvious signs that help you identify which peaches you should leave on the shelf.

Avoid peaches with spots or green areas

Nutritionist Daniela Zuin explained on her social networks that the color and condition of the shell are decisive factors when choosing. “The peach must have a uniform skin, without dark spots or green areas near the stalk, as these indicate lack of ripeness. A bright and homogeneous color is a sign that the fruit is ripe and tasty.”

When the peach has greenish parts, especially near the stem, it means that it has not yet ripened and may take a while to reach the ideal point for consumption.

The National Institute of Food and Nutrition (INAN) also recommends paying attention to dark spots or soft areas, which indicate the beginning of deterioration. In these cases, the flavor and quality are compromised, and the fruit may no longer be safe to eat.

Pay attention to the firmness of the fruit

Texture is another essential element when choosing. Daniela Zuin suggests a simple test: when you lightly press the peach, it should give a little under your fingers. “If it’s too hard, it’s still green. If it’s too soft, it’s probably already overdone or spoiled.”

This precaution avoids taking home peaches that are unfit for consumption. Furthermore, it is important not to squeeze the fruit too hard to avoid damaging it.

Choose peaches with a sweet aroma

Smell is one of the best indicators of ripeness. According to the portal Healthlinea ripe peach has a sweet and intense aroma, which reflects the presence of natural sugars and oils.

He adds that fruits with no smell or a weak aroma tend to be tasteless and should therefore be avoided.

Daniela Zuin highlights the importance of this detail: “The aroma is one of the most reliable signs of fruit quality. A peach with a pleasant, fruity smell is ready to eat and will most likely be sweeter and juicier.”

So, when choosing peaches, pay close attention to the color, feel the texture and trust the aroma, the three simple steps that guarantee a tastier and fresher fruit.
