This Tuesday, the Minister of Internal Administration lamented the death of the National Republican Guard (GNR) soldier, on Monday, after the Guard vessel was rammed by a speedboat on the Guadiana River, off Alcoutim.
“On behalf of the Government, the Ministry of Internal Administration extends, at this tragic moment, a word of solidarity and heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, the National Republican Guard and, in particular, the soldiers of the Coastal and Border Control Unit”, is mentioned in a note of condolence from Maria Lúcia Amaral’s office.

GNR boat rammed

After the clash, the high-speed boat was found burning two miles (almost four kilometers) from the place where the accident occurred on the Guadiana river, off Alcoutim, in the district of Faro, with the occupants having fledaccording to the source.
In a statement, the GNR states that efforts are still underway, on the Guadiana River and its banks, to investigate the circumstances under which the fire occurred and in order to collect material evidence and locate the suspects.
These steps take place with the support from the Maritime Police, the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority and the Guardia Civil, from Spain.
The investigation is in charge of the Judiciary Police, according to the GNR.
The GNR activated psychological support from the Guard to monitor the soldiers involved and their families.
