Last night, the terrorist group handed over new remains to the Red Cross, although Israeli authorities confirmed this morning that they correspond to those of another person already found.
The Al Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the , announced this Tuesday (28) that they will return the body of another hostage held in the , with the mediation of the Red Cross, in the next few hours. “The Al Qassam Brigades will hand over the body of one of the prisoners who was found recently in one of the tunnels in the Gaza Strip,” the militia said in a statement. This morning, after 13 days of searching, rescue teams found the remains that presumably correspond to those of hostage Amiram Cooper in a tunnel in the city of Khan Younis, in southern Gaza, as a Gaza journalist told EFE. EFE witnessed yesterday, Monday, searches in the tunnel in the southern city, using excavators.
In the case of Cooper, the Israeli newspaper “Yedioth Ahronoth” highlighted on October 17th, when the search work became public, that the hostage may have died after the collapse of the tunnel in a bombing, but other local media assure that he was murdered during his captivity. However, Al Qassam did not detail either the location or the identity of the alleged hostage, who will be identified at the Abu Kabir forensic institute in Jaffa, south of Tel Aviv.
Last night, Hamas handed over new remains to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), although Israeli authorities confirmed this morning that they correspond to those of a hostage whose body had already been found almost two years ago and returned to Israel. Thus, there are still 13 bodies of kidnapped people in Gaza. Hamas claims to be trying to find them, while denouncing that the Israeli Army is preventing its work and the entry of heavy machinery to remove rubble.
Israel, in turn, accuses Hamas of delaying the delivery of bodies and, therefore, violating the ceasefire agreement.
