The recording of the new DVD, held this past Sunday (10/26) in Arcos da Lapa, in Rio de Janeiro, was marked by parties, big gatherings and a lot of emotion. Among the thousands of fans and artists at the celebration, one presence was especially touching: the singer’s mother, Kátia Gomes.

In an interview with a reporter from LeoDias portalMonique Arruda, Kátia said she never imagined . “I knew that João would be a great man, because I have my essences and I carry with all pride what my father left and I pass on to João. Not at that extreme where people could know him in the way he does with his fame as a singer. But I know that any other profession he would pursue, with a lot of responsibility, because he was always a boy who showed a lot of respect and a lot of obedience. And that results in everything that is happening”, she said emotionally.

Very proud, she highlighted the humility of the artist, described as “the boy” who remains the same, despite today occupying the position of one of the most sought after names in Brazilian music. For her, the DVD’s guest list, which includes other music icons, symbolizes the recognition that João has achieved.

The singer’s mother did not hide her emotion when she saw Ivete Sangalo publicly praising her son. A declared fan of the Bahian, Kátia said she could barely contain her tears when she witnessed the artist’s affection. “It’s a source of pride! I didn’t have the opportunity to meet Ivete. I came from far away, I was moved! She’s a fan of his and I’m a fan of hers. I think anyone who isn’t a fan of Ivete: It’s a burden, really, as you said.” Kátia also made a point of thanking João’s first supporters at the beginning of his career, especially Tarcísio from Acordeon and the artists from the production company Top Event, who, according to her, “reached out” when the native of Pernambuco was still dreaming of the stage.

The live recording of João Gomes’ new DVD featured free entry, thousands of fans and some of the biggest names in Brazilian music as guests. The show started around 3pm, with the singer from Pernambuco choosing Rio de Janeiro to record the audiovisual project. The choice of Lapa, according to an official statement, reinforces the national connection that João built and the symbolism of taking the sound of the backlands to the cultural heart of the country.
