Vinicius Jr.’s reaction to being substituted in El Clasico between Real Madrid x Barcelona, when he was one of the best on the field, indicates the Brazilian’s accumulated frustration with Xabi Alonso.
One of the first chapters of this relationship was written during the Club World Cup, when Alonso intended to leave Vinicius Jr. on the bench during the semi-final between Real Madrid and PSG. The decision, however, had to be postponed due to an injury to Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Spanish coach ended up choosing Vinicius Jr. on the right, and not on the left, where he prefers to play. The Whites lost the match 4-0.
Since then, Vinicius Jr. has not felt comfortable with Alonso, and the opposite seems to be true. The Brazilian only finished three matches out of the 10 in which he was named as a starter. Furthermore, he started on the bench in three of the 13 games played by the team this season.
The player is in the middle of negotiations to renew his contract, which ends in 2027. According to information from The Athletic, his staff are confident that the problem is with Xabi Alonso, without any influence from the club.
Currently, Spanish outlets claim that there is no relationship between Xabi Alonso and Vinicius Jr. El Larguero also reported that the player had told his agent that he would like to leave Real Madrid if he is not considered an undisputed starter.
