The elected president of the center-right , said this Tuesday (28) that he does not represent the values ​​of “democracy and freedom”, following criticism from the Venezuelan president for rejecting his presence and that of the leaders of and in his inauguration. Paz, who assumes the presidency on November 8, announced that he does not want the three leaders to be present on that day because he does not consider them democratic.

The future government will mark a radical change in relation to the left that governed Bolivia for the last 20 years, first with Evo Morales and then with Luis Arce. In these two administrations, Bolivia was part of the axis formed by Caracas, Havana and Managua, and turned its back on the .

On Monday in Caracas, Maduro classified Paz’s decision as an act of “treason” and said that the three countries were the target of “brazen and unjustified aggression”.

On social network X, Paz indicated that he will build “a better country […] without hatred, without division and without persecution” and that it will do so in “democracy and freedom”. “Bolivia represents these values. You, Mr Maduro, represent the complete opposite”, wrote the future president of the Andean country.

In another message, Paz also said that, when he lived in exile in Venezuela in the 1970s, he was welcomed by the Venezuelan people, for which he will be “eternally grateful”.

This week, Paz travels to the United States with the aim of reestablishing diplomatic relations, broken by Morales in 2008, and opening his country to help from international financial organizations, which has been disdained in the last 20 years by left-wing governments.
