White House cites purchase of Boeing, gas and oil in US-South Korea deal

announced this Wednesday (29) that the American president, , secured “billions of dollars” in agreements with, which include initiatives to support American jobs, strengthen the energy dominance of the , promote the country’s leadership in the technological revolution and build the maritime partnership between the two countries.

In a statement, it is mentioned that South Korea’s Korean Air will purchase 103 new Boeing aircraft valued at US$36.2 billion, supporting up to 135,000 jobs in the US; Korea Gas Corporation will acquire approximately 3.3 million tons/year of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) through long-term agreements with vendors including Trafigura and TotalEnergy.

It is also highlighted that the two countries signed the “Technology Prosperity Agreement” to expand bilateral cooperation in science and technology with an emphasis on US AI exports, AI standards, AI adoption, research security, 6G, biotechnology supply chains and quantum innovation.

“Amazon will invest US$5 billion by 2031 to build South Korea’s cloud infrastructure, helping to boost US exports and American leadership in AI”, states the note, which explains that the amount is in addition to Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) investments in cloud infrastructure in 14 Asia Pacific Cooperation (APEC) economies, totaling US$40 billion.

The White House says HD Hyundai and Cerberus Capital Management will partner on a $5 billion investment program to “modernize American shipyards, strengthen supply chains and apply new technologies such as autonomous navigation, digitalization and automation.” Additionally, Samsung Heavy Industries and Vigor Marine Group will cooperate in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of naval vessels, shipyard automation and new construction of US-flagged vessels.
