This Wednesday (29), they secured their place in the final by drawing 0-0 with Racing, at El Cilindro, in Avellaneda, in . After winning the first leg 1-0 at Maracanã, the red-and-black team held off the pressure from the Argentines and secured a place in yet another continental decision. The opponent will be defined this Thursday (30), when Palmeiras and LDU face each other at Allianz Parque. The Ecuadorian team won the first game, in Quito, 3-0. The final is scheduled for November 29th, at the Monumental stadium, in Lima, Peru.

This will be Flamengo’s fourth Libertadores final in the last seven years — the club won in 2019 and 2022 and came second in 2021. In the duel in Avellaneda, the start was marked by delays and interruptions caused by fireworks from the local fans, but Flamengo was not intimidated and created the best chances of the first half. Luiz Araújo, Carrascal and Arrascaeta stood out in the offensive attacks, forcing goalkeeper Cambeses to make good saves.

Racing, in turn, abused the crosses and had difficulty threatening the goal defended by Rossi, who made a decisive save from Conechny’s header. Almendra also wasted a good opportunity by shooting over the top. Argentine pressure intensified in the final stage, especially after the expulsion of Plata, who reacted with a slap after being provoked by Marcos Rojo. Even with one down, Flamengo maintained its defensive posture and once again counted on good interventions from Rossi to secure the result.

In the final minutes, Racing tried to “shower” incessantly, but they lacked creativity. In one of the few different plays, Colombo took a risk from outside the area and got scared, while Vietto had a clear chance saved by Rossi. With the draw, Flamengo reaches the Libertadores decision and now turns its attention to the Brasileirão. Vice-leader of the national tournament, the team faces Sport on Saturday (1st), at Maracanã.
