Leila Pereira, president of Palmeiras, had an unexpected moment when she interrupted Abel Ferreira’s press conference, right after the 4-0 victory over the Quito League, which guaranteed the club’s presence in the Copa Libertadores final.
Visibly moved, Leila made a point of praising the Portuguese coach in front of the journalists. “This historic moment must be documented. This man knows what he says and what he does. He told me: ‘Leila, today will be a historic and magical night’. Abel, thank you. He is the greatest coach in the history of Palmeiras and he knows it”, he stated.
The president continued her speech with words of gratitude: “I have always supported you in positive moments and in difficult moments. The gratitude I have for your work, for the person you are and for everything you have provided to the fans, is priceless. We will be eternally grateful. You were right: it was a magical night.”
After the statements, Leila Pereira left the press room to applause, while Abel Ferreira watched the gesture of recognition visibly moved.
