From 2023 to date, Ceará has become a leader in job creation. There are already more than 148 thousand jobs in the state, which has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the entire Northeast, a number lower than the rate of 7.5 in the same period last year.

To facilitate workers’ access to the job market, the VaiVem Trabalhador program was launched, the aim of which is to guarantee free transport for those who need to travel to work.

Furthermore, Ceará has invested in another program: Ceará sem Fome, which helps to expand and generate income.

Support for entrepreneurship is also a priority. Through Ceará Credi, the government grants microcredit to small entrepreneurs and self-employed workers, strengthening local businesses and boosting the economy in all regions of the state.

According to Vladyson Viana, state Labor Secretary, a combination of factors contributed to this result, such as the resumption of public policies such as Minha Casa, Minha Vida.

“The state of Ceará has stood out for its strong presence of public investments and the creation of a favorable environment for the installation of private enterprises, especially in the energy transition sector. Local and national businesspeople have increased their investments, boosting agribusiness and generating new employment opportunities in the commerce and services sectors.”

The secretary also highlights that the VaiVem Trabalhador program has impacted employability and the retention of workers in jobs. According to him, the initiative was a commitment from Governor Elmano de Freitas da Costa, who realized the need for Ceará workers.

“The governor created the VaiVem program, which offers 40 free tickets per month to workers who use metropolitan transport. This initiative allows citizens to have more mobility to take professional qualification courses and seek new job opportunities”, he guarantees.

“To date, more than 2,200 workers have already gained access to formal work through the program”, he adds.

Reducing inequalities and entrepreneurship

Other programs are essential to reduce inequality and encourage entrepreneurship, such as a food security policy that has played a fundamental role in combating hunger and inequality. Currently, the program has more than 1,300 solidarity kitchens, which guarantee a daily meal for people experiencing food insecurity.

The majority of the public served is made up of female heads of families, many of whom had to interrupt their professional careers — a situation that highlights how the domestic burden still falls, to a large extent, on women.

“With the aim of promoting autonomy and income generation, the government initiated professional qualification actions aimed at entrepreneurship. Today, there are already more than 60 thousand entrepreneurs supported through the Ceará Credi program, strengthening the economy and productive inclusion throughout the state”, says Viana.

Economy

Among many other incentives for the economy, the tourism sector is one of the main ones and, according to Viana, the hotel chain is always booming.

“I highlight the service sector as the main area that generates job opportunities for the state of Ceará”, highlights the secretary.

Among the challenges, the secretary certifies that he has worked to reduce informality by offering professional qualifications, in addition to working with the vulnerable public.

Jobs with a formal contract

The General Register of Employed and Unemployed People (Novo Caged) showed that the state registered a balance of 6.9 thousand jobs, reaching more than 40 thousand new vacancies with formal employment contracts from January to August.

According to the Federal Government, Fortaleza was the municipality with the highest balance: 1,898 jobs. Currently, the city has a total of 772.4 thousand formal jobs.

Close behind, among the municipalities with the best monthly performance in the state, Lavras da Mangabeira stands out, with 770 new vacancies, Juazeiro do Norte, with 682, and Caucaia, with 452.
