Tesla

The 2nd generation Tesla Roadster was announced in 2018. According to Tesla, it should finally come out before the end of this year
Another ridiculous episode in the war between Sam Altman and Elon Musk. The CEO of OpenAI launched a subtle but accurate criticism of Tesla: he published on X an email from 2018 in which he asked for the return of the 45 thousand dollars he paid to reserve a Tesla Roadster — whose launch is “a little” delayed.
The second generation of Tesla Roadsterthe iconic electric supercar from the automaker Elon Muskwas announced by surprise, in November 2017, after the launch of the Tesla Semi electric truck.
The convertible electric sports car is the successor to the Tesla’s first caralso called Roadster, which was launched in 2008 — and which, ten years later, was literally .
At the time of the presentation of the new Roadster, Musk said that the supercar would be on sale in 2020, and that the most eager could start making reservations — for the modest sum of 45 thousand dollars, something like 39 thousand euros.
Now it turns out that some fans of the brand, despite knowing its reputation for repeatedly missing its deadlines, have actually made reservations for the new Roadster — and are waiting for the car for almost 8 years.
This is the case of Sam Altmanwho apparently got tired of waiting, or decided to take a bite out of his now enemy: the CEO of Tesla.
On Thursday, the businessman on X sent a message entitled “A story in three acts”, in which he shared a July 2018 email which confirmed the payment of a deposit of 45 thousand dollars for booking the new second generation Roadster.
No email, Altman asked Tesla to cancel the order and the return of 50 thousand dollars, plus five thousand than the original deposit. The request, however, appears not to have reached its destination: the email was returned.
“I was really excited about the car! And I understand the delays. But waiting seven and a half years seems like too long,” Altman wrote in a new post.
One of Tesla’s most anticipated models
The new Roadster was one of Tesla’s most popular presentations. In 2017, Musk stated that the Roadster “It will be the fastest production car everperiod.” As Tesla’s CEO said at the time, “it will be the first time that a car beats its 2 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h“.
The entry into production of the new model was initially scheduled for 2020but it has been successively postponednote or .
During a meeting with investors in October 2024, Musk revealed that Tesla was finalizing the design of the Roadsterbut stressed that the company’s priority was its “core mission of transition to an energy future sustainable.”
“We are working on it, but there are things with a more relevant impact in the world. So I just want to thank all the Roadster reservation holders for their patience”, stated Musk.
Continuation of the Altman-Musk war
Altman’s veiled criticism arises in full legal battle and between both, in the context of OpenAI, the company that founded together em 2015.
Musk was one of first financiers of the initiativebut left the board of directors in 2018. Since then, has been one of the biggest critics of Altman’s leadership at the helm of OpenAI.
In February 2024, Musk, accusing the organization of having violated its nonprofit mission by partnering with Microsoft. He withdrew the action in June, but presented it again in August of the same year.
In November, Musk’s lawyers presented a precautionary measure to halt the conversion of OpenAI into a for-profit company. An OpenAI spokesperson told Insider that the move was “completely unfounded.”
“For a long time I considered him an extraordinary heroa jewel for humanity. Today I have different feelings”, Altman said about Musk in an interview with Tucker Carlson, former Fox News pivot, broadcast on September 10.
“There are aspects of him that are truly remarkableand I am grateful for much of what he did. But also There are traits I don’t admire”, he added.
On Tuesday, OpenAI announced that it had completed its restructuring process. With the new changes, the OpenAI Foundation, a non-profit branch of ChatGPT’s parent company, will now supervise a new public interest company, OpenAI Group PBC.
According to , the company is preparing to go public, aiming to achieve a appreciation of one billion dollars.
