One of the worst things for a football player who is not accommodated is being on reserve. I believe that Endrick, ex-Palmeiras, is not, that he does not lack desire or ambition, so his situation at Real Madrid appears to be highly undesirable and uncomfortable.
The striker who at 17 years old – I would write “just 17 years old”, but the precocity in the sport is so obvious that I no longer know if 17 years old is so premature – shone at Palmeiras in the 2023 Brazilian Championship title campaign, suffered a thigh injury on May 18th, in a game against Sevilla in the Spanish Championship that kept him away from the field for months.
It was tremendous bad luck, as he lost the Club Supermundial, in the middle of the year, when Real was without Mbappé for a large part of the competition. In this scenario, and with Rodrygo down, Endrick would probably start.
Although, even if he had played a lot, it wouldn’t be a guarantee of anything. Who entered, another young man, Gonzalo García, 21, and stood out, with four goals and an assist in six matches, returned to ostracism as soon as Mbappé recovered.
During his absence, Endrick saw the competition for a place in the Merengue team’s attack grow. There were already Mbappé, Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, Gonzalo. Mastantuono, 18, River Plate’s jewel, arrived and Arda Güler and Brahin Díaz stepped up in production.
Thus, even after recovering from the injury that left him unusable for 11 matches, his chance of playing, which was not great before, under the command of the Italian Carlo Ancelotti (now in the Brazilian team), fell to close to zero under the management of the Spaniard Xabi Alonso.
With the new coach, if not even Vinicius Junior, the current FIFA best in the world, is getting the minutes he would like – he was a substitute in some matches and has been frequently substituted in games as a starter –, why would Endrick?
After eight matches warming the bench (six in Spanish, two in the Champions League), without having a single minute of opportunity, the number 9 replaced Mbappé this Saturday (1st), against Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabéu.
It was his first chance in five and a half months, and it only came, quite possibly, because the game, 34 minutes into the second half, was already decided, Real were winning 3-0.
In 13 minutes, including stoppage time, it was barely possible to get the ball, and it wasn’t possible to finish once. The goal for Real’s first team, which hasn’t been scored since April 1st, in the Copa del Rey against Real Sociedad, will have to wait a little (or “a lot”) longer.
The question arises: since Endrick, 19, is still quite young, can’t he wait to naturally gain space in the team, since he has a contract until 2030? He can. However, this wait tends to be long, and, in addition to being painful for the athlete not to go to the field, without visibility he is discarded from the Brazilian team.
During the administrations of Fernando Diniz and Dorival Júnior, Endrick was an easy addition to the squad. Being on the squad, I could compete for a place on the team.
There’s a World Cup approaching. Any player dreams of playing one (or more). With Endrick, it should be no different. But, to return to the squad, he needs to play for the club.
The best alternative for Endrick is to negotiate a loan with Real. It is said that these negotiations are already taking place, and that in the January transfer window he would leave, heading to Lyon, France.
Being at the gigantic Real Madrid is great, it’s every footballer’s desire. But, in order not to play or play almost nothing, the most desirable thing, in the short term and for a certain period, is to get out. To be able to use your feet more than, of course, your glutes.
