President of Mexico condemns murder of Uruapan mayor and promises action against impunity

The president of, condemned this Sunday (2) the murder of the mayor of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo, shot dead on Saturday night (1st) in the historic center of the municipality, located in the State of Michoacán. In a message published on his account on “From the moment I found out about this serious event, I spoke with the governor of Michoacán and the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, who maintain constant communication with the State,” he wrote.

The president also informed that she had summoned the Security Cabinet to guarantee support for local authorities and avoid any possibility of impunity. “From the beginning, this administration has strengthened the security strategy. These unfortunate events encourage us to strengthen it even further,” said Sheinbaum.

She also reiterated the federal government’s commitment to supporting Michoacán’s security forces. “We reaffirm our commitment to supporting all soldiers of the State to achieve peace and security with zero impunity and justice,” he declared. Mayor Carlos Manzo was murdered during the Day of the Dead festivities, in an attack that left two other people injured. The attacker was killed at the scene, according to Mexican authorities.
