Conmebol defined this Tuesday (4) the time for the decisive game of the World Cup, which will feature in the dispute for the title of champion. According to a statement from the organization, the match, scheduled for November 29th, will be held at 6pm (Brasília time), at the Monumental stadium in Lima, capital of Peru.
The meeting will be a repeat of the final of the 2021 continental tournament. On that occasion, the duel was played at the Centenário stadium, in Montevideo, Uruguay, and the São Paulo team achieved an Olympic comeback by defeating its rival from Rio by a score of 2 to 1.
The dispute for this year’s trophy has a special flavor for Brazilian clubs, as whoever wins the clash will become the first team in the country to be four-time Libertadores champions.
The two teams qualified for the final after two tense games in the semi-final round-trip clashes. Flamengo dispatched Racing, from Argentina, by winning the first duel in Rio 1-0. On the way back, coach Filipe Luís’ team held on to a goalless draw in Avellaneda. In this match, the Rio team had a player sent off (Gonzalo Plata) at the beginning of the second half.
Palmeiras, on the other hand, had an epic comeback to confirm their presence in this final. In Quito, the team from São Paulo suffered a 3-0 defeat. In the second game, supported by the strength of their fans at Allianz, coach Abel Ferreira’s team thrashed their Ecuadorian rival 4-0 and secured qualification to decide the title.
