Brie was diagnosed five years ago with stage four neuroblastoma, which is the most common type of cancer in children after leukemia and brain cancer. Even though she was under constant care of doctors and parents after the devastating discovery, her condition worsened so much that she had to be admitted to hospice earlier this year.
Her mother Kendra regularly talks about the condition of little Brie, who posts photos of the little girl and the whole family on social networks. With over a million followers on Instagram, she recently posted a heartbreaking post in which she openly described the struggles of her illness. “As much as I long for a miracle, I feel like the ‘realistic’ part of my mind is trying to convince my heart and tell my soul to give up, but I don’t want to do it,” she wrote.
Kendra explained that at one point, Brie had been cancer-free for about 22 months, according to doctors. “Then, a month and a half after the scan, she was again stage 4. The disease had spread from head to toe. I’m not sure what they saw was accurate,” she revealed in another post.
The mother of four also revealed her daughter’s current condition. “She slept through most of the week, retains water in her face, legs and stomach, is no longer eating and is regularly connected to oxygen. It hurts me. Every day seems extremely difficult“, she added.
The Bird family decided to celebrate Christmas in early October. the reason was that Brie’s health had deteriorated. “We will celebrate our last Christmas together as a family of six. I’m still in denial. I am so desperate for a miracle,” Kendra stated.
