He wasted no time after becoming elected mayor of the city of before addressing the man who threatened to not only cut off the city’s funding, but also arrest and deport him if he won. “Since I know you’re watching, I have words for you: Turn up the volume,” Mamdani of the Democratic Party told the Republican president on stage at his victory party in Brooklyn.
He also launched a direct challenge to the president: “If anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that created him”, he pointed out. Mamdani, who was born in Uganda and became a naturalized American citizen after graduating from college, has come to present himself as the embodiment of resistance against Trump, who has pursued an aggressive anti-immigration agenda during his second term.
