Explosions near army near Khartoum undermine RSF ceasefire deal. Residents of Omdurman report power outages. energy and drone observation in Atbara.

Khartoum, November 7 (TASR) – Explosions rocked the area near the army-controlled Sudanese capital Khartoum on Friday. This was stated by eyewitnesses for the AFP agency, writes TASR.

The explosions came a day after the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF) announced it was agreeing to a humanitarian ceasefire in fighting with the regular Sudanese army.

Residents of the neighboring city of Omdurman said the explosions on Friday occurred near a military base and a power plant, causing local power outages.

Other witnesses in the town of Atbara, 300 kilometers to the north, reported sightings of drones and “air defenses shooting them down”.

In addition, the Sudanese medical unions said that the RSF shelled a hospital in the besieged city in the south of the country on Thursday, writes AFP.

The civil war between the RSF and the Sudanese army has been ongoing since April 2023. It has so far claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced millions, and caused the largest displacement and hunger crisis in the world, according to the UN. According to the BBC, this war led to famine and genocide in the Darfur region.

The RSF agreed to a humanitarian ceasefire more than a week after seizing the town of al-Fashir, which they had besieged for more than a year. In the Darfur region, it was the last place controlled by the army.

A Sudanese military source told the AP on condition of anonymity that he welcomes the proposal of US-led mediators for a ceasefire, but will only agree to it if the RSF completely withdraws from civilian-populated areas and surrenders weapons based on previous peace proposals.
