The public’s excitement to see a Brazilian again at the São Paulo Grand Prix didn’t last even one lap. In the first lap of this Sunday’s race in Interlagos, he abandoned the race. The Brazilian ran out of space when fighting with Aston Martin, and put his wheel on the grass, spinning and hitting the wall in “Bico de Pato”, turn 10 of the track.

On Saturday, in the sprint race, on the last lap the Brazilian suffered a serious accident on the main straight at more than 300km/h. He tried to overtake Alex Albon, from Williams, in front of him, slipped on the damp track and hit the walls hard, seeing his Sauber take off from the ground. Fortunately, Bortoleto did not have any injuries. But, due to the accident, Sauber was unable to fix the Brazilian’s car in time for him to do qualifying. As a result, he was last on the grid.

And in Sunday’s race, in the first lap, he said goodbye to the GP. Even so, Bortoleto remains one of the great promises of Formula 1 at the age of 21, scoring 19 points in his debut year and being accredited with the F-3 and F-2 titles in consecutive years.
