The Italian Prime Minister met this afternoon in Rome with the president of the Palestinian National Authority.
As stated in a statement by the Italian government, during their conversation Meloni “referred to the need to strengthen the ceasefire and the need to begin its stabilization and reconstruction”, as well as the need to fully implement, within a short period of time, the peace plan of President Trump.
Something that must also be achieved through the disarmament of Hamas, which will not be able to have any role in the future of the Palestinian people.”
The offer in Gaza
The Italian Prime Minister, at the same time, underlined that her country offers continuous humanitarian aid to the civilian Palestinian population with the “Food for Gaza” initiative, with the transfer of wounded to Italy and thanks to the possibility provided to Palestinian students to study in Italian universities.
As Georgia Meloni mentioned during the meeting, Italy also contributes to the training of the Palestinian police and the reform process of the Palestinian Authority.
“At the conclusion of the meeting, a new reference was made to the need to make efforts aimed at a lasting political solution based on the perspective of the two states.
It has been confirmed that the Italian government, based also on the priorities indicated by the Palestinian Authority, is preparing a package of humanitarian aid, as well as for reconstruction, which it is going to present at the Conference on Gaza, which will be convened by Egypt,” the Italian government’s announcement states finally.
