The opposition criticizes the Minister of the Interior of the Slovak Republic, Matúš Šutaj Eštok (Hlas-SD), for his execution after losing by default a dispute with a group of police officers nicknamed the Čurillos. The minister must pay compensation to the police officers and publicly apologize to them for his statements on the social network.
The President of SaS Branislav Gröhling wrote on the social network that SaS demands the resignation of the Minister of the Interior. “He is a person who got to the post by ‘trolling’ on social networks. As Home Secretary, he bullied investigators, advocated mob laws, and sent angry mobs to threaten students. Under Šutaj Eštok, the police completely disintegrated and we cannot even complain about security in Slovakia,” he declared.
The member of the National Council (NR) of the SR Jaroslav Spišiak (PS) declared on the social network that this is how it ends when an Internet troll starts thinking that he can do whatever he wants without consequences. “The Minister of the Interior must be the guarantor of law and legality. He must perform his public service for the voters of all political parties, not only for his supporters. Matúš Šutaj Eštok prioritized political marketing, and that’s how it turned out. Instead of his work, he will focus on slandering police officers, bullying children on the Internet and overpriced purchases.” Spišiak added later. He added that the court’s decision is a tragic picture of the state of the ministry.
KDH Vice President Viliam Karas thinks that Šutaj Eštok should apologize to the acting judge. “It is not possible for the Home Secretary to blame a judge for acting in accordance with the law. He accuses him of his own negligence. It is unimaginable that the Minister of the Interior and the chairman of the Hlas party, which boasts of digitization, ignores the data box,” he pointed out.
Former Minister of the Interior and Member of the National People’s Republic of Slovakia Roman Mikulec (Slovakia – For the People) considers the Minister of the Interior to be a chronic violator of the law. “Matúš Šutaj Eštok, who likes to present himself as a lawyer, as he is a professional, as he understands everything, yet he ignored the courts. He ignored the fact that he should have gone to court to explain his motives for what led him to make such statements,” he declared. At the same time, he called the Minister of the Interior a coward. As he added, he cannot reverse anything.
The Minister of the Interior, Šutaj Eštok, lost a court case against the policemen from the group of so-called Čurillos. He must publicly apologize to them for comparing him to the duly convicted Mikuláš Černák. The six police officers are also to be paid a total of 90,000 euros in compensation, legal costs and interest on late payment. On Tuesday, the police officer’s lawyer Peter Kubina informed about this on the social network. According to him, Šutaj Eštok did not receive e-mail and thus the court lost “in absentia”. As Kubina added, the minister is currently under execution, and the executor has blocked the funds on his account for the payment of compensation.
The minister responded on the social network that he stands by his words. Due to his workload, he hardly uses the public administration portal. According to him, the court was not interested in his arguments. He also blames the judge for not trying to contact him otherwise.
