The city of Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine is under pressure from Russian forces who allegedly control supply routes. Despite this, Ukrainian troops remain in the fight and replenish ammunition.
The Ukrainian military command on Monday admitted problems with the supply of the city of Pokrovsk and neighboring Myrnohrad, where Ukrainian troops are trying to repel advancing Russian forces. TASR informs about it according to the report of the DPA agency.
General Staff spokesman Andriy Kovaľov did not say exactly what the aforementioned supply problems mean, but he denied claims that Russian troops have full fire control over Ukrainian supply routes. New ammunition was delivered to the units in Myrnohrad on Sunday and the wounded were evacuated, he specified. According to him, Ukrainian troops continue to fight against Russian forces in Pokrovsk.
Battles near Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad
DPA notes that after a year of intense fighting, Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad may soon come under Russian control. The territory held by Ukrainian forces there, which has shrunk to just a few square kilometers, is largely in the line of sight of Russian attack drones.
On Monday, the Russian Ministry of Defense repeated its claim that the Russians had completely cut off Ukrainian supply routes in both mentioned places. At the same time, it announced the capture of three more Ukrainian villages on the front – Solodka and Nova in the Zaporozhye region and Hnativka in the Donetsk region.
Increasing Russian pressure
Russia currently controls about 19 percent of Ukrainian territory and in recent weeks has intensified pressure on the cities of Pokrovsk and Kupiansk in eastern Ukraine. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, Russia has deployed approximately 17,000 troops to capture Pokrovsk. About 60,000 people lived in this city before the war, which began with the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops in February 2022. As a transport hub, this city is important for supplying Ukrainian troops.
