The Prievidza police investigator charged a 55-year-old man with the crime of robbery. On November 7, in Prievidza, the accused robbed an 87-year-old woman of a shopping bag in which she had cash and documents. A senior woman was injured during the robbery. The Trenčín regional police reported on this on Tuesday on the social network.
According to the police, the accused committed the crime in the entrance of one of the apartment buildings in Prievidza. “He approached the 87-year-old victim. After he approached her saying that he was going to visit someone, he took advantage of her older age and snatched the shopping bag from her hands. As a result, the victim fell to the ground, injuring her hand and head“, described the policemen.
According to them, the man took a wallet with 150 euros in cash, personal documents and other contents from the bag, causing damage to the victim in the amount of approximately 190.50 euros. “He threw the other things away and ran away with the money to a nearby city park, where he threw the wallet into a concrete water shaft,” they added.
The identity of the man was established by the police based on securing all available camera footage and information obtained from persons cooperating with the police. “Within 24 hours of committing the act, they tracked him down and subsequently restricted his personal freedom,” the police explained, adding that the accused was placed in a police custody cell after the necessary procedural steps had been taken.
“At the same time, the investigator processed the request for the arrest of the accused. The police also found out that he had already been criminally prosecuted in the past. If found guilty, he faces a prison sentence of seven to 12 years,” added the policemen.
In this context, the police once again warn citizens, especially the elderly, to be careful when moving in public places, and not to allow unknown persons to enter apartment buildings and to pay extra attention to them.
