The majority of Brazilians positively evaluated the performance of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) after the meeting with the President of the United States, Donald Trump, according to a Genial/Quaest survey released this Wednesday, 12th.
For 45% of those interviewed, the PT member emerged stronger politically from the meeting with the former North American president, while 30% believe he became weaker. For another 10%, the president was the same and 15% did not know or preferred not to give their opinion.
The survey also showed optimism regarding trade relations between the two countries. Asked about the possibility of an agreement to reduce tariffs, 51% said they believe that Lula and Trump will reach an understanding, compared to 39% who consider a convergence between the two leaders unlikely.

The meeting took place on the 26th, Brasília time, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where both participated as guests at the 47th Leaders’ Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean).
The Genial/Quaest survey was carried out between the 6th and 9th of November, through face-to-face interviews. The survey interviewed 2,004 Brazilians aged 16 or over in all regions of the country. The margin of error is two percentage points, plus or minus, within a 95% confidence level.
