The Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, tried this Sunday (21) to ease tensions with Ukraine following friction between the presidents of the two countries. In a publication on X, Tusk said that a conflict between politicians from both countries is a “strategic error” that causes losses for both sides.
“Both parties will lose: commercially, geopolitically and in terms of reputation. And in politics, as we know, a mistake is worse than a crime,” Tusk wrote, adding that he tries to minimize losses and reduce tension in talks with European partners. “It is not an easy task.”
Tensions
This is the second time that Tusk has spoken out in an attempt to calm tensions with Ukraine. The friction began after the Polish president, Karol Nawrocki, revoked the Ukrainian possession of the Order of the White Eagle state decoration on Friday, 19, publishing a 13-minute video on social media about the matter.
According to him, the Ukrainian army remains responsible for “cruel crimes” committed against Polish citizens in World War II and, therefore, does not deserve the honor.
At the time, Tusk said that the tense situation “glads” the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and “shocks allies”.
The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, said that the “future will confirm the respect” that his people deserve and returned the Polish decoration in response to Nawrocki, who rebutted the Ukrainian in a new publication on X. “Poland will not close its eyes to the glorification of a criminal organization”, said the Pole yesterday.
