US attacks new vessel in the Caribbean and kills two crew members

The attack, announced on Sunday night, brings the total number of deaths since President Donald Trump’s administration began the offensive in September to more than 210.

The US army carried out a new air strike against an alleged vessel drug traffickers in the Caribbean Sea, killing two men and leaving six other shipwrecked, according to authorities.

In a message published on the social network X, the US Military Command for Latin America and the Caribbean (Southcom) stated that the ship was “navigating known drug trafficking routes in the Caribbean”.

Black-and-white video footage accompanying the message showed a boat moving through the water before being hit by a projectile and swallowed by a violent explosion.

No US military personnel were injuredinformed the command.

Southcom mentioned that the attack left “six men survivors” and said it immediately notified the US Coast Guard to activate the search and rescue system for the castaways.

This is the second attack to leave survivors in the space of a week. On June 16, another attack caused two castaways.

A day later, the US Coast Guard said it had suspended the search for survivors without finding “any sign of survivors or wreckage”.

Donald Trump’s Administration never presented concrete evidence to confirm that the targeted ships were actually involved in trafficking.

UN experts and officials denounced these extrajudicial executions.

The body intends, in particular, to verify whether the “joint cycles of six phases of targeting” are being followed correctly. According to a source cited by US broadcaster NBC, the cycles range from target designation to attack assessment, including intelligence analysis and final decision making.
