The processing of the Antifaction PL has once again exposed the strategy of the left, the PT and the government (PT) of encouraging a campaign in speeches and social media to confront Congress and repeat the mobilization that blocked the .
With a minority in the plenary in relation to the centrão and the Bolsonaro opposition, the left began to rely on social pressure to try to influence the public debate and votes in the Legislature.
In the opinion of opponents, the clashes have the 2026 election as a backdrop. They warn that encouraging speech against Congress may have gains for the government in the short term, but it carries the risk of, at the same time.
With or without success, the tactic was adopted this year in , in , in , in , in and now , in a government turnaround after and in .
In all cases, Congress, sometimes called the “enemy of the people”, was the target of criticism. The campaigns are based on an alignment of speeches by government authorities and allies and coordinated action on networks, with a focus on videos.
Deputies from different camps saw an effect on the PT and government’s argument that the rapporteur (PP-SP) intended to limit the action of the Federal Police and, thus, protect parliamentarians under investigation. The Antifaction PL came to be called the new Blindagem PEC.
As a result, the government’s Secretary of Public Security () ended up equating factions with terrorists. Furthermore, the vote was postponed, and the president of the Chamber, (Republicanos-PB), had to .
groups linked to the PT on messaging applications intensified the offensive against the report, stating that it strengthens organized crime and targeting the center.
On Friday (14), Motta minimized the effects of the repercussion. “The debate about the Legal Framework for Combating Organized Crime has taken over Brazil. It’s in the conversation circles, on the networks and in the press and that’s great. It’s the sign of a living democracy! The parties can fight over narratives, the right or the left can say that they won the network dispute. This dispute doesn’t move me”, he wrote in X.
Some of the deputies, on the other hand, say that the current campaign did not burst the left bubble and does not compare to the PEC of Blindagem, which even led to street protests. On the topic of security, they say, .
A PT deputy claims that the government got the formula right by adopting the rhetoric of the fight between rich and poor and “BBB taxation” (billionaires, bets and banks), which has support in society. The tendency is to use it in any unpopular matter supported by the right and the center.
According to deputies from the base, just as the themes of sovereignty and tax justice served to get the government off the hook, the clash with Derrite helped public security.
Until then, Planalto had accumulated a series of setbacks in the context of the police operation that , with , and, finally, that of the Executive project.
Oppositionists recognize that Derrite’s back and forth in the text and the PF issue.
The Social Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, for example, released videos explaining Derrite’s text point by point. The Planalto Palace also appointed ministers to speak to the press, reinforcing the speech that Derrite proposed to weaken the PF.
Government members point out that the prior political alignment of several ministries in the construction of the Antifaction PL allowed the message to also be unified.
The opening for the left’s offensive, say allies and detractors of Derrite, described as hasty and inexperienced.
A deputy from the center says that Derrite, unlike the government, was not prepared from a communication point of view, and the perception prevailed that he wanted to protect the PF, an institution with credibility among the population. Another parliamentarian from the same camp states that postponing the vote gives the image of a clumsy or cowardly Congress.
A cardinal from the group also points out that Motta’s image was also damaged — in public opinion and also internally, by demonstrating fragility.
On the other side, there was a reaction from the president of the Chamber, who appointed allied leaders to defend Derrite’s choice and his competence. Motta and representatives from seven parties even participated alongside the rapporteur in a press interview.
Derrite’s retreat, according to allies of the President of the House, served to curb the PT’s intended effect on public opinion.
An interlocutor of Motta claims that the movement to attack Congress will exact a price. He says he sees the Executive’s stance that the 2026 election has already been won and, therefore, there was carelessness in the relationship with Parliament. The deputy says that, at the end of the day, the government will need the Chamber more than the government’s Chamber.
