Women’s football: Palmeiras is champion of the Copa do Brasil – 20/11/2025 – Sport

Palmeiras beat Ferroviária 4-2 on Thursday afternoon (20) and won the women’s Copa do Brasil title for the first time. The match was played at Fonte Luminosa, in Araraquara.

The goals went to Amanda Gutierres, Brena, Tainá Maranhã and Greicy, for Palmeiras, and Andressa and Raquel, for Ferroviária.

The first half started off busy, with Palmeiras trying to set the pace. There were chances with defender Pati Maldaner, midfielder Brena and attackers Amanda Gutierres and Tainá Maranhão before the 15th minute. Afterwards, Ferroviária even tried to get out a little more, but the first goal went to the team from São Paulo.

In the 21st minute, Raíssa Bahia crossed from the left and Amanda Gutierres headed it hard to open the scoring. The home team’s equalizer came in the 37th minute, following a set piece. Duda Santos took a free kick from the right and Andressa headed it into the goal.

In stoppage time, at 47, Amanda Gutierres tried to cross and the ball deflected into the defense. Goalkeeper Luciana still managed to make a great save, but Brena was attentive to the rebound and sent it into the goal.

In the second stage, Palmeiras expanded early, with a penalty, with Tainá Maranhão, who hit high, with no chance for Luciana.

The maximum penalty was scored using a new mechanism that is being tested by the CBF in the women’s Copa do Brasil, the video challenge.

An alternative to VAR, the initiative allows teams to request a review of two shots per match. In this case, Palmeiras asked referee Daiane Ruiz to review, with the help of video, a possible foul on Tainá Maranhão inside the area.

Palmeiras, despite the advantage, continued to press, and had chances to increase the score, such as a shot by Brena from outside the area, saved by the goalkeeper.

Ferroviária even tried to attack, but stopped at the Palmeiras defense and goalkeeper Tapia.

At 34, Ferroviária made a mistake with the ball, Jenny recovered it and passed it on for Greicy to shoot and score the fourth.

There was still time for Raquel to score Ferroviária’s second, in stoppage time, after a cross from Mylena Carioca.

One of the team’s highlights, Amanda Gutierres has already been sold for US$1.1 million (R$5.86 million) to Boston Legacy, from the United States. The transfer is the biggest in the history of Brazilian women’s football. Amanda, who will play for the American team from 2026, was nominated for the Ballon d’Or this year.

The achievement of this fifth crowns an excellent campaign for the team led by Rosana Augusto, who replaced Camilla Orlando – now the coach of the Brazilian under-20 women’s team – during the tournament.

Palmeiras debuted in the third phase of the competition and did not concede a goal until the final. Along the way, they beat Avaí/Kindermann (4-0), América-MG (3-0), Sport (5-0) and São Paulo (4-0).

Ferroviária also had a great campaign and its defense, until the decision, had only been surpassed once. The club led by coach Léo Mendes also debuted in the third phase and went through Coritiba (5-1), Vitória (3-0), Internacional (2-0) and Bahia (2-0).

With the title, the São Paulo team won R$1 million in prizes. Araraquara pocketed half of that for runner-up.

Interestingly, the finalists will face each other again on Sunday (23), at 11am, in the semi-final first leg of the Campeonato Paulista, once again in Araraquara. The return, in São Paulo, will be on December 4th.

This year marked the return of the Copa do Brasil to the women’s football calendar after almost ten years. Previously, the competition was played from 2007 to 2016.

Ferroviária, which played its third final of the competition, was looking for its second title – it was champion in 2014, when it beat São José, and runner-up the following year, when the cup went to Kindermann.

In addition to winning this Thursday, Palmeiras has already been champion of the 2022 Libertadores, the 2020 Brasileiro and the 2001, 2022 and 2025 Paulista.
