Former Secretary of Fisheries of (PL), the senator (PL-SC) criticizes the decision of the president (PT) of (Supreme Federal Court) and says that the fact that he is an evangelical does not justify his approval of the vacancy left by the court.
“I am against the appointment to the STF not only because of ideological divergence, but because of concrete facts that reveal the political use of the AGU”, says Seif.
In the senator’s assessment, under Messias’ command the agency was used “to persecute journalists critical of the government, such as Alexandre Garcia, had a restrictive stance that impacted the protection of police officers in operations in Rio de Janeiro and demonstrated omission in the face of warnings about billion-dollar fraud against INSS retirees.”
Seif minimizes his argument and states that “the Christian faith does not serve as a shield for practices incompatible with the Gospel”.
“The Bible teaches that God is justice, impartiality and truth. What we saw in the Messiah’s actions was selectivity, political persecution and the instrumentalization of power”, he adds.
The senator also states that the STF requires independence and balance. “When politics enters the court, Justice leaves through the other door”, he says, adding that he does not see in Messias “the moral and institutional conditions” to occupy the court.
Also evangelical, senator Mecias de Jesus (Republicanos-RR) shows support for the name of the AGU and states that he reached the position “through merit, competence and solid training”.
“His technical qualifications overcome ideological debates,” he says. “In addition, he is someone who preserves important values for Brazilian society, such as the defense of the family and Christian principles, which he shares as an evangelical”, he highlights.
