Arthur Henrique gets more votes for the government of Roraima – 06/21/2026 – Politics

The former mayor of Arthur Henrique Brandão Machado () was the most voted name for the position of governor of na, with 60.87% of the votes. But possession of the seat is uncertain and the TRE (Regional Electoral Court) of Roraima has not yet declared the winner of the election.

“As there was a candidate with a null vote sub judice, whose nominal vote exceeded 50% of the vote, electoral legislation prevents the proclamation of the result until the final decision of the higher authorities”, communicated the TRE.

Arthur Henrique ran for the election with his sub judice candidacy. This is because an appeal against the rejection of its registration for the dispute has not yet been resolved in the (Supreme Federal Court) and in the (Superior Electoral Court).

Even with the uncertainty, he took to the streets to celebrate the results of the vote alongside voters. On a social network, he wrote that “the will of the people prevailed”.

The counting ended around 9:30 pm Brasília time (8:30 pm local time). This Sunday, 384,582 voters in Roraima were eligible to vote.

Bolsonarista Arthur Henrique obtained 160,004 votes. Soldado Sampaio (Republicans), who is the current interim governor of Roraima and, before that, president of the Legislative Assembly, won 93,897 votes (35.72%). In third place was the PT candidate, sociologist Nelita Frank, who obtained 8,948 votes (3.40%).

Since the definitive proclamation of the election result depends on the conclusion of the trial involving Arthur Henrique in the courts in Brasília, the regional court also stated that Soldado Sampaio remains in the position of governor on an interim basis.

According to the TRE, ten electronic voting machines needed to be replaced. The number represents 0.67% of the 1,483 ballot boxes used throughout the State. The regional court reported having recorded no serious incidents throughout the day.

The imbroglio surrounding Arthur Henrique’s candidacy began when the minister, from the STF, overturned a resolution from the Roraima TRE and signed an injunction understanding that the deadlines for candidates’ non-compliance should be the same as in a common election, three to six months before the date of the election, depending on the position the person occupies.

The deadlines established by the TRE were different, considering that it was an atypical election. In the case of Arthur Henrique, the date on which he left the position of mayor of Boa Vista complied with the regional rule, but did not comply with the deadline for non-compliance set out by the STF.

Dino’s injunction has already been confirmed, by a majority vote, in the First Panel of the STF, but Arthur Henrique’s campaign still hopes to take the case to the court’s plenary.

The supplementary election in Roraima takes place as determined by the TSE, which at the end of April revoked the mandate of then governor Edilson Damião (União Brasil) and made former governor Antonio Denarium (PP) ineligible.

Elected vice-governor in 2022, Damião occupied the main Executive seat at the time of the TSE decision. He replaced Denarium, who had resigned from his position the previous month with the intention of running for the Senate this year. The duo was convicted of abuse of political and economic power in the 2022 election.

Denarium supported the name of Arthur Henrique for the buffer mandate. The PL pre-candidate for Planalto, the senator, released videos in support of the former mayor of Boa Vista. In the second round of the 2022 presidential elections, Jair Bolsonaro (PL) obtained 76.08% of the votes in Roraima, against 23.92% for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

In addition to the dispute for the government of Roraima, there was also a supplementary election this Sunday for the mayors of Reginópolis (SP), Tuiuti (SP), Joviânia (GO), Amparo da Serra (MG) and Bonito de Minas (MG).

Understand the supplementary election in Roraima

  • March 27 – Governor of Roraima elected in 2022, Antonio Denarium (PP) resigns his mandate to run for the Senate and his vice, Edilson Damião (União Brasil), assumes the main seat of the Executive
  • April 28 – Superior Electoral Court confirms decision of the Regional Electoral Court of Roraima and condemns Denarium and Damião for abuse of economic and political power in the 2022 campaign. Damião loses his mandate and Denarium becomes ineligible
  • April 30 – Due to the TSE’s decision, the then president of the Legislative Assembly, state deputy Soldado Sampaio (Republicans), temporarily assumes the Government of Roraima until the conclusion of a supplementary election. Soldier Sampaio is one of the candidates for the buffer mandate
  • May 3rd – TRE-RR publishes a resolution establishing rules for the supplementary election, scheduled for June 21st. One of the articles defines that, in cases of necessary non-compliance, candidates must leave office within 24 hours following the party convention.
  • May 25th – TRE publishes an advertising plan on radio and television with the three names that qualified for the dispute: Antonia Pedrosa (PT), from the Roraima da Esperança coalition (PT, PCdoB, PV and Psol-Rede); Arthur Henrique (PL); and Soldado Sampaio (Republicans), from the Roraima Segue em Frente coalition (Republicans, PDT, MDB, Podemos, PSD and PSDB-Cidadania)
  • May 27th – A preliminary decision by Minister Flávio Dino, of the Federal Supreme Court, overturns part of the TRE resolution and defines that the deadlines for disqualification must be the same as in a common election, that is, candidates must leave their positions three to six months before the date of the election (the variation in time depends on the position they hold and the position they intend to occupy)
  • June 2nd – Based on the STF decision, the TRE rejects the registration of two candidacies, Arthur Henrique and Antonia Pedrosa. The first had resigned as mayor of Boa Vista on April 2, considering running in the general election in October. The second left her position as a teacher at the state school on May 16th. In other words, both did not meet the non-compliance deadline of 3 months before the election date (June 21st)
  • June 3rd – The coalition led by the PT chooses to change the candidate to stay in the race. In place of Antonia Pedrosa, sociologist Nelita Frank (PT) enters. The PL chooses to appeal the decision and insist on the candidacy of Arthur Henrique, who now becomes a sub judice candidate
  • June 19 – In a virtual session, the ministers of the First Panel of the STF confirm Dino’s injunction. There was only one dissenting vote, from Minister Cármen Lúcia. Ministers Alexandre de Moraes and Cristiano Zanin followed the rapporteur. The expectation of Arthur Henrique’s defense is to take the case to the court’s plenary
