Cats have not only been popular with people since the Internet. Domestic cats have been around for thousands of years, as evidenced by finds from the Neolithic Middle East and Cyprus from around 9,500 years ago or Egypt around 6,000 years ago. However, it has not yet been possible to answer exactly how the ancestors of the domestic cat (Felis catus) came to Europe and from there to large parts of the world.
