ANDRÉ KOSTERS/LUSA

There is also “Angela Maryah”, “And finally Aparício”, or “PARaPR2026 – My party: Portugal”. The list is long.
To list of candidates for President of the Republic – or potential candidates for President of the Republic – is longer than we thought.
We already know the best known: Gouveia e Melo, Marques Mendes and André Ventura, favorites to go through to the second round.
António José Seguro and João Cotrim de Figueiredo. Catarina Martins, António Filipe and Jorge Pinto are also on the list.
Following a comment by Pedro Benevides on the radio, we went to take a look at this portal, the platform where everyone who wants to be a candidate for elections registers. In this case, to the 2026 presidential elections.
We will not leave here the complete list of 45 candidatesor potential candidates (many do not have the necessary signatures, at least for now); but we highlight some names that stood out. Especially names from the candidacy itself.
“National Pride 2026…Nelson de Sousa Rodrigues…The fight continues and victory is certain!” – is the name of Nélson Rodrigues’ candidacy.
Sara Castanheira likes the year Portugal was founded and presents herself with her candidacy “1143 Always! Sara Castanheira!”
Ângela Maria slightly changed her name to introduce herself as “Remember Mary – A Presidentte Presidentte – “.
“And finally Aparicio” is the name of Pedro Aparício’s candidacy.
There are also longer designations, such as “Emílio Ramos, Honor the Past, Protect the Future, Live the Present”, or “MANUELA MAGNO – Active Citizenship, for Portugal, in Europe and in the World”.
Júlio Cabral makes a point of presenting himself as a candidate for president and engineer: “Engº Júlio Cabral – let’s change our history”.
Joaquim Espadaneira sums up his candidacy with “Espadaneira Presidente!”
Young Lino Silva has a candidacy called “This is for the aunts 2026”.
Paulo Rodrigues prefers a designation that is somewhat confusing at first glance: “PARaPR2026 – My party: Portugal”.
Emanuel Moleirinho is the candidate “President Moleirinho 2026”.
Alexandre Ramos chooses to be the “Symbol of the nation and the Guardian of Democracy”.
On the other hand, there are people who are more confident: “A Smile in Every Portuguese”defends Jaime Silva’s candidacy.
Finally, the last one (in alphabetical order) is the candidacy “Why not?!”. The candidate is David Belo.
On the list are two other well-known names: the trade unionist André Pestana, with “André Pestana, one of yours the President”, and the musician Manuel Vieira, the “Candidato Vieira”.
