On October 7, 2025, things happened quickly: Both August Wöginger and two other co-defendants admitted that they had made “mistakes” in a case of postal corruption. It quickly became clear: Wöginger, the former head of the Austrian tax office and a high-ranking trade unionist wanted a diversion instead of a lengthy court case with an uncertain outcome.
