4.5 meter shark attack kills man in Australia

A man died after being attacked by a shark while fishing off the coast of Western Australia, police said on Saturday (6). This is the third fatal shark attack in the country in three weeks.

The 35-year-old man was attacked on Saturday morning while spearfishing with his family off the state’s south coast, on Michaelmas Island, near the city of Albany, about 388km south of the state capital, Perth, police said.

He was taken to the coast, where he received treatment from paramedics, but he succumbed to his injuries and died.

State authorities reported that a 15-foot shark of an unknown species was spotted by a citizen near Michaelmas Island, a nature reserve with few visitors.

On May 24, a 39-year-old man died after being attacked by a shark while fishing on the Great Barrier Reef. This death occurred ten days after he was attacked by a shark near an island near Perth.

In Australia, around 20 occur, but the vast majority are not fatal, according to . The number of people who drown on the country’s beaches is much higher.
