
Firefighters and private individuals begin to transport urgent patients and train professionals. INEM is “refounding itself”.
O INEM – National Institute of Medical Emergency is in a year of changes. The Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins, already had.

A “refoundation” desired by the Government also involves taking INEM ambulances out of circulation. In other words, urgent patients will no longer be transported by the famous yellow ambulances.
According to , the Ambulances will all be from firefighters and private companies. INEM receives requests for help but only sends teams, professionals.
At this stage, in Portugal, firefighters already respond to 90% of calls – and they will have to respond, at most, 8 minutes after the request for help.
In addition to the first assessment by firefighters and private individuals, and stabilization, and if necessary, they move on to the immediate (SIV) and advanced life support (SAV) phase.
The professionals will be trained by private entities, entities with international certification.
In the new year, INEM will also have a new information system.
