Man returns from vacation and finds 4 fines after painting disabled space around his car

A British man returned from vacation and found four fines on the windscreen of his car for allegedly being parked in a space reserved for people with disabilities. The unusual thing is that, when he went on vacation, the space had no special markings.

Video surveillance cameras in New Addington, south London, recorded the entire sequence. Firstly, you see a worker measuring the area. Soon after, the same employee starts painting the lines that delimit the new parking space. As soon as he finishes, he moves away, leaving the car inside the new reserved area. The images reveal that everything happened on October 17th.

Four days later, on the 21st of the same month, a parking inspector issued the first fine because she considered the car to be poorly parked. The following day, the same employee returned and again reported the alleged infraction. The scenario repeated itself until the owner returned home and removed the vehicle.

The worker responsible for painting even took photographs of the car to alert the local government that this was an exceptional situation, but the message did not reach those carrying out inspections. In a statement, local authorities explained that it is common practice to delimit space even with parked cars, as waiting for an empty space can take weeks.

The local government also added that, although the fines were issued, they were not processed because there was already an internal note on the case. The fines had been canceled a week before the video went viral on social media.
