María Corina Machado made an “extreme risk trip” and will even be present in Oslo

Nobel Peace Prize winner will not receive the prize from Norway

Leader of the opposition in Venezuela was unable to arrive in time for the Nobel Prize ceremony in Oslo, where he will be represented by his daughter

The leader of the Venezuelan opposition, María Corina Machado, took an “extreme risk” trip to Oslo, Norway, where the Nobel Prize ceremony will take place, the Norwegian Institute announced.

In a statement, the Norwegian Nobel Institute, which had announced this morning that María Corina Machado would be represented at the ceremony by her daughter, Ana Corina Sosa Machado, now says that the Nobel Peace Prize winner “did everything in her power to be present at today’s ceremony”, on a “journey in a situation of extreme danger”.

“Although she was unable to make it to today’s ceremony and events, we are deeply happy to confirm that she is well and will be with us in Oslo”, announces the institute.

María Corina Machado, 58 years old, won the Nobel Peace Prize on October 10th, in recognition of her fight for the democratic transition in Venezuela.
