The application of the reduction of additional US tariffs on Swiss products will be retroactive, confirmed a statement released by the Swiss government this Wednesday, 10. The official text states that the United States will adopt a tariff ceiling of 15% on imports from Switzerland, valid retroactively since November 14, 2025, replacing the additional 39% applied until then.
With the retroactive entry into force of these rules, US tariffs on Swiss goods will be “significantly reduced”, while existing exemptions – including pharmaceuticals, certain chemicals, gold and coffee – will remain intact. The statement added that the US will also remove additional tariffs on aircraft, certain aviation-related parts, rubber products, cosmetics and generic medicines, with the full list to be published in the Federal Register, the official US gazette.
In return, Switzerland will cut tariffs on fish, seafood and certain agricultural products and create duty-free annual quotas for beef, bison and poultry. As the measures come into effect on November 14, importers from both countries will be able to request tariff refunds from customs authorities.
