Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado left Venezuela on Tuesday and traveled by boat to the Dutch island of Curaçao. The information was confirmed by senior US administration officials
“Nobel Prize winner María Corina Machado left the country on Tuesday by boat and traveled to Curaçao. The opposition leader’s allies worked to prevent the trip from becoming public, in order to protect her safety”, says the American newspaper.
This route had already been adopted by other Venezuelan opponents. From Caracas to the coast of the country, in the state of Falcón, there are many military controls, so in previous cases, opponents counted on the help of personnel assigned to the regime to make the journey.
The Spanish newspaper “El Mundo” states that, on the day of the escape from Venezuela, American military personnel flew over the gulf that connects Falcón and Maracaibo, the second largest city in the country, with two Superhornets fighter jets, deployed from the USS Gerald Ford, the largest in the world.
Corina Machado wanted to be present in Oslo, where the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony took place this Wednesday. However, Nicolás Maduro’s opponent did not arrive in time for the ceremony. The award was received by his daughter, Ana Corina Sosa Machado.

In a statement, the institute said that the Nobel Peace Prize winner “did everything in her power to be present at today’s ceremony.”
The statement from the Norwegian Nobel Institute does not specify when the Venezuelan opponent will be in Oslo.
However, the institute released a recording of a call in which María Corina Machado confirms that she will be in the Norwegian capital. “I’m on my way”, he said, in the call with the president of the institute’s committee Joergen Watne Frydnes.
María Corina Machado, 58 years old, won the Nobel Peace Prize on October 10th, in recognition of her fight for the democratic transition in Venezuela.
In November, Venezuela’s attorney general stated that María Corina Machado would be considered a “fugitive” if she left the country to receive the award. The leader of the Venezuelan opposition, who has remained in hiding for more than a year, confirmed on the 6th that she would travel to Oslo to receive the respective award.
