Donald Trump is “extremely frustrated” with Russia and Ukraine. He demands an end to the conflict

President Trump expressed his frustration with the progress of the war in Ukraine. Negotiations are stagnant, but the US is ready to intervene if there is a chance for a peaceful settlement.

US President Donald Trump is “extremely frustrated” with Kiev and Moscow regarding the war, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said on Thursday. Trump’s statement came at a time when negotiations to end the nearly four-year-long war waged by Russia in Ukraine have collapsed, TASR reports, according to a report by AFP.

“The president is extremely frustrated with both sides of this war,” Leavitt told reporters. “He doesn’t want more talks. He wants action. He wants this war to end,” she added, adding that Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and his team are continuing to negotiate with both sides of the conflict.

Trump’s impatience

At the beginning of the week, Trump expressed impatience with Ukraine and its European allies France, Britain and Germany, saying that there were “strong words” during a phone call with the leaders, according to AFP.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said further talks were planned for this weekend and that an international meeting on Ukraine could be held early next week, but American participation was not guaranteed.

A plan for a peaceful settlement

“If there is a real chance of a peace agreement being signed, if we feel that these meetings deserve someone from the United States to attend this weekend, then we will send a representative there,” Leavitt said.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed on Thursday that Kyiv had sent an updated version of the peace plan to the United States. He added that the US is insisting on the creation of a demilitarized “free economic zone” between Russian and Ukrainian troops in eastern Ukraine as part of a settlement to the war conflict.
