The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), stated that the dosimetry bill, under discussion in the National Congress, represents a “political advance” and that it is the “possible resource at the moment”. The statement was given to journalists during an agenda in the metropolitan region of São Paulo.
“I think it’s like this: it’s what’s possible at the moment. I understand that we need to seek a path of pacification, a reestablishment of justice, we have to take the possible steps. What was possible politically was this. So let’s move forward with this step and then think about the next ones”, said the governor.
This is the first time he has commented on the proposal since the text was approved by the Chamber of Deputies. The version sent to the Senate seeks to establish uniform criteria for the application of sentences and review of decisions in specific cases, with the aim of guaranteeing proportionality in convictions. The proposal should reduce the sentence of former president Jair Bolsonaro.
