An operation by the State Department of Justice and SEJUSP (Public Security of Minas Gerais), was triggeredthis Thursday (11), in ten state prisons. The focus is to reinforce internal control and interrupt possible criminal chains of command by targeting factionalized inmates classified as highly dangerous.
Os faction members considered local crime leaders were transferred to more rigorous units and isolation sectors with the aim of reducing their influence over other inmates and stopping orders given to individuals outside prisons.
The strategic action, which was carried out by Criminal Police agents, is a preventive and repressive action to strengthen institutional control and confront organized crime within the prison system. According to the Criminal Police Intelligence Superintendence, Operation Sinapse is the result of detailed planning, based on continuous intelligence surveys.
The work involved the integration of tactical and analytical teams.
Around 1000 criminal police officers from Specialized Groups — COPE, GIR, TAPPED, GOC, PAIRED and Intelligence teams — participated in the Operation, assisting in the transfer of inmates who make up a prison population of approximately 2,000 inmatesdistributed in more than 12 municipalities in the State.
“Operation Sinapse was structured to cut criminal connections and strengthen institutional security mechanisms. It is an action that reaffirms the permanent commitment of the State of Minas Gerais to the protection of society and the defense of public order”, highlighted the Director General of the Penitentiary Department, Leonardo Badaró.
The operation remains ongoing.
