Minister considered, this Thursday (11), null the decision of the Chamber that maintained the mandate of the deputy imprisoned in Italy
The decision of the minister, Alexandre de Moraes, to and the immediate decree of her removal from power generated movement among the former president’s allies. They didn’t take long to express themselves on social media about Moraes’ order. “It’s… congress. Unfortunately, it’s sad to see you so weakened and on your knees in the face of so much arbitrariness,” wrote the former first lady.
“The psychopathic dictator who today rules the three Powers has attacked again. When a minister annuls the sovereign decision of the Chamber and overturns the popular vote, this stops being Justice and becomes an absolute abuse of power”, criticized Sostenes Cavalcante (PL-RJ), leader of the PL in the Chamber. “Brazil saw an act of institutional usurpation: a man going over Parliament and the will of the people,” he added.
The person who also took a stance on Moraes’ decision and attacked the minister was deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG). “Look at the second paragraph. The Constitution is nothing more than toilet paper for Moraes,” he said. In his decision to annul the Chamber’s decision, Moraes said that it was a “clear violation of the Federal Constitution”.
“It is the Judiciary who determines the loss of the parliamentary mandate criminally convicted with final judgment, and it is up to the Board of the Chamber of Deputies, under the terms of §3 of article 55 of the Federal Constitution”, says the document.
Senator Damares Alves was another to speak out. “I hope that all my parliamentary colleagues now understand what I mean when I denounce that we are experiencing a dictatorship of the judiciary,” he said. “Either we put things in their proper place immediately or we can declare the end of the National Congress”, he added.
In addition to annulling the Chamber’s decision, Moraes also gave the President of the Chamber a deadline to comply with the decree. “I determine that Hugo Motta takes possession of the signed document within a maximum of 48 hours”, says Moraes, who also requests Minister Flávio Dino to schedule a Virtual Session for Friday (12) from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm.
