The classic started with Vasco pressing and exchanging quick passes in the offensive field. Fluminense, however, managed to balance the match and started to be more aggressive. After six minutes, Lucho Acosta missed a good chance when he finished over the crossbar.

In a mistake on the way out of the game, Puma Rodriguez almost opened the scoring for the Vasco team.
