Will Marquinhos face Flamengo? This is one of Paris Saint-Germain’s main doubts on the eve of the Intercontinental final, scheduled for Wednesday (17/12), in Qatar. Captain and reference of the French team, the Brazilian defender still does not have a guaranteed presence in the decision against Rubro-Negro.
Marquinhos arrived in Doha with the PSG delegation and participated in the activities on the field this Monday (15/12), which kept alive the expectation that he could be in the decision. The defender was left out of the club’s last match in Ligue 1, the 3-2 victory over Metz on Saturday, due to a suffered hip problem during the goalless draw against Athletic Bilbao, in the league stage of the UEFA Champions League, last Wednesday.
Internally, the assessment is cautious. The technical committee led by Luis Enrique monitors the captain’s physical evolution day by day. The tendency is for the decision on your lineup to be made just hours before the final.
If Marquinhos is unable to play, the defense will have Ukrainian Illya Zabarnyi to play alongside Willian Pacho.
In addition to the Brazilian defender, PSG also has another important question mark: Ousmane Dembélé. The striker has not been on the field since December 6th, when he participated in the 5-0 defeat of Rennes, in Ligue 1, contributing an assist. Since then, he has been out due to a bout with the flu, but he also trained after arriving in Qatar.
If, on the one hand, Marquinhos and Dembélé still generate apprehension, on the other hand, the club already knows that it will not be able to count on Hakimi. The right-back continues to recover from a serious sprain in his left ankle, suffered at the beginning of November, and is confirmed to be absent for the final.
