São Paulo’s highways are prepared to receive up to 41 million drivers this summer, with heavy traffic especially on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

On the roads inspected by the Regulatory Agency for Public Transport Services of the State of São Paulo (Artesp), the largest flow expected is in the systems managed by AutoBan (Anhanguera and Bandeirantes), which projects the circulation of more than 6 million vehicles, the Rodoanel Oeste, which should receive around 2.8 million cars, and the Anchieta-Imigrantes System, where 2.8 million are expected. Significant volumes are also expected on highways operated by Ecopistas, SPMar, Raposo Castello and EixoSP.

All roads granted will be monitored by cameras 24 hours a day, in an integrated manner with the Military Highway Police, and by automatic incident detection systems. Concessionaires will also use message boards, applications and networks to inform travelers about road safety rules and possible roadblocks. Operational vehicles will be positioned in strategic locations to provide assistance in the event of an emergency.

On the roads inspected by the Department of Highways of the State of São Paulo (DER-SP), more than 1,200 employees and 323 vehicles were mobilized, including tow trucks, firefighting vehicles, motorcycles and vehicles, which will inspect. Among the planned actions are the release of shoulders, the use of reversible lanes, the “stop and go” operation in sections with works or accidents, in addition to the control of access and operational deviations.

DER-SP expects a greater flow of vehicles on weekends in the sections that give access to the coast and mountain regions, such as Rio-Santos, Oswaldo Cruz (SP-125), Floriano Rodrigues Pinheiro (SP-123) and Osvaldo Barbosa Guisardi (SP-046), where around 270 thousand vehicles are expected on the weekend.

The Toll Plazas will operate at full capacity and will be able to count on operational reinforcement, opening of additional booths and the use of queue buses during peak hours.
