Netflix announces cancellation of Spanish series “Olympo”

Netflix announced the cancellation of the Spanish series “Olympus”prematurely interrupting what was until then considered one of the biggest streaming bets for the young adult audience in 2025.

The interruption frustrated the expectation of continuity that had been nurtured by the series’ creators at the time of its premiere.

Launched in June, the takes place in the High Performance Center of the Pyrenees, on the border between Spain and France, and portrays the routine of young athletes identified as sporting promises.

The starting point comes from an incident experienced by one of the characters, paving the way for reflection on emotional and ethical dilemmas throughout the plot.

The first signs that the production would not go ahead emerged in December, when behind-the-scenes information revealed that the protagonists Clara Galle and Agustín Della Corte did not renew their contracts.

The confirmation of the closure gained even more strength when the technical team and cast were already released for other professional commitments, signaling the definitive dismantling of the series’ structure.

Audience issue?

Despite the sudden cancellation, audience figures show that the series was far from a commercial failure.

Since the debut, Olympus accumulated more than 113 million hours watched and reached 17.7 million total views, remaining in the global Top 10 for five consecutive weeks.

Furthermore, Spanish production was present in the daily rankings of 78 countries, which appeared to be a notable strength in the market, remaining among the most watched titles in Spain for more than a month.

The series’ unexpected outcome raises questions about the platform’s renewal criteria, which opted for cancellation despite a solid international performance.
