AXIOS: The Trump-Zelensky meeting on Sunday

AXIOS: Την Κυριακή η συνάντηση Τραμπ – Ζελένσκι

On Sunday, December 28, the US president will meet with the president of Ukraine on Sunday at Mar-a-Lago, according to a post on X by Axios reporter Barak Ravid, citing information from a Ukrainian official.

Earlier today, Zelensky announced the meeting via his X.

In his post on X, Mr. Zelensky states that there is an agreement to meet with him in the “near future”, adding that “much can be decided before the New Year”

“Rustem Umerofm informed me about his latest contacts with the American side. We don’t miss a single day. We agreed on a meeting at the highest level – with President Trump in the near future. A lot can be decided before the New Year. Glory to Ukraine!” Zelensky wrote.

Zelensky’s post comes less than 24 hours after the revelation by Zelensky himself in which the US and Ukraine have reportedly agreed, as well as the communication he had on Thursday with the American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

The plan envisages freezing the front along its current lines, but offers no immediate solution to the thorny issue of Russian-held territories, which make up about 19% of Ukraine.

Unlike the original version, the new document also ignores important Moscow demands: the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the Donbas regions they control and even Kiev’s legal commitment not to join NATO. For this reason, it is considered unlikely that Russia will agree to the new proposal. When asked about the matter, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow was “considering its position” and declined to comment on the details.
