The meeting takes place amid the intensification of Russian attacks on Ukraine. In the early hours of Saturday, Russia launched almost 500 drones and around 40 missiles against the country, according to Ukrainian authorities. The main target was Kiev’s energy and civil infrastructure, leaving neighborhoods in the capital without electricity and heating.

According to Dtek Group, one of the main private investors in Ukraine’s electricity sector, the bombings affected more than 1 million homes in Kiev and the metropolitan region. Early in the morning, around 700,000 customers were without power, a number that reached 750,000 throughout the day.

In his publication, Zelensky criticized the Russian offensive and stated that the attacks demonstrate Moscow’s rejection of diplomatic initiatives. “Russia continues to attack our cities and our people. Even proposals for a Christmas ceasefire have been rejected, with an escalation in missile and drone attacks,” he wrote.
