Picasso valued at 1 million euros can be yours for just 100 euros

“My grandfather He was a very generous person, but also discreet“, Olivier told the British newspaper. “He helped the family, especially my grandmother Marie-Thérèse. Helped friends. The idea for the draw came from Peri CochinFrench television producer and tableware company owner . Cochin was inspired by seeing his mother organize raffles at fundraising events.

“I thought: Wouldn’t it be fantastic to do a worldwide draw?selling tickets online? I decided it would have to be a work of art, and what is the most famous name in the art world? Obviously, it’s Picasso,” he said.

Cochin contacted Olivier Picasso, his childhood friend. After receiving his approval from the administration of the Succesion Picasso, and family, reserved the painting at the Opera Gallery, which will receive just under 1 million of euros after the draw.

“We are used to hearing about Picasso and auctions with astronomical prices, but This was the first time that Picasso’s name was actually associated with a solidarity cause”, he explained.

Cochin has already organized two previous draws for works by Picassoin 2013 and 2020, having raised more than 10 million euros in total.

The first winner was Jeffrey Gonanothen 25 years old, who ended up with a Picasso drawing valued at 860 thousand euros. “He left the painting for some time in the Pittsburgh Museum and now it is stored at Christie’s in New York because I didn’t want to have him at home”, he said.

The second winner was Claudia Borgognoan accountant from Ventimiglia, Italy, who received the raffle ticket as a Christmas gift from his son. She became the owner of a 1921 Picasso, valued at 1 million euros. “She still keeps the painting, she says it changed her life. It really is a beautiful story”, concludes Cochin.

Olivier said that the family “felt an immediate connection to the project”, especially because the money will benefit an important cause.

There is no cure for Alzheimer’s diseasenor treatments that can stop or reverse its progression. “Today, when we live longer than before, we ourselves or those close to us can be affected by the disease. I know how difficult and painful it is,” he added.

The objective is sell 120 thousand tickets, raising 11 million euros for Alzheimer’s research. The draw is scheduled for April 14that Christie’s auction house in Paris. If not enough tickets are sold to cover the cost of the work, all participants will be refunded.
